Sheltered Instructional Operation Protocol (SIOP)
Training
The
Sheltered Instruction Operational Protocol (SIOP), a research based
model for teaching second language learners, is based on the belief
that language acquisition is enhanced through meaningful use and
interaction. Thus, the SIOP model integrates reading, speaking,
listening and writing skills into all content areas. SIOP is an
approach that accelerate progress for ESL students in content areas
while receiving language support services. The research based SIOP
model aligns with both the National Teachers of English to Speakers
of Languages (TESOL) Standards and with Ohio Academic Content Standards
for ESL. This training is conducted in a series of interactive workshops
that can be scheduled as half-day or shorter sessions.
