ESC students and coaches from Upper Arlington discuss strategy during a break in a mock competition with the Ohio School for the Deaf.

The first mock competition between the two programs served as a warm-up for the upcoming regional stage of the annual Academic Bowl, a national team quiz competition for students with hearing impairments.

Even though the School for the Deaf pulled out a close victory, ESC Teacher Lisette Tedeschi said everyone was very happy with the way the event went.

“Everyone was excited, yet nervous, to play against their friends,” she said. “We all knew some answers, and both teams learned several strategies that will be beneficial at the real Academic Bowl.”

ESC Interpreter Sarah McKinney is the head coach of the UA team and arranged the competition with OSD Coah Chaise Heine.

“There was great sportsmanship and great effort by both teams,” Tedeschi said. “Good Luck to both Ohio teams at the real competition!”
