Wellness Program: Walkers head into Maryland

The walking portion of the ESC Wellness Program has reached its halfway point and the education sessions are about to start.

Education
Mount Carmel Corporate Health & Wellness will provide education programs based on the aggregate data from the Health Risk Assessment.  The programs are designed to provide individuals with the tools to make healthy lifestyle changes.

The first program will be "Maintaining a Healthy Weight Over the Holidays, How to NOT Pack on the Pounds" on Nov. 8.

The second program, "Don't Put a Freeze on Your Workout," will be Jan. 10. The third event will be March 11 covering "Fruits + Vegetables + Fiber = A Healthy You.”

All events will be at the ESC Central Office, time and room to be announced.

Walking Program
The walking program just finished up week four of the eight week program. All teams combined, the ESC has chalked up 21,507,620 steps thus far and that is only halfway through the program.

Team Scarlet and Gray is leading the pack into Maryland with 2,290,159 steps, El Loco Ochos are hot on their trail with 2,039,275, Fado’s Fanatics, Blub Busters- Who ya gonna call?, and Team 2 are all above the 2,000,000 step mark. The Eight Steppers, ESC Pacers, Team Unstoppable, Brilliant Beauties, The Wolfe Pack, The Step Sisters, and the Walking Wizards are all within hiking distance to take the lead.

While traveling through Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania the teams have traversed through some rough, yet beautiful terrain.

Throughout the trek, the teams are reminded of the importance of staying active. It is not only important for the physical benefits of activity, but also the social and psychological benefits of working as a team to achieve a common goal and using activity as a stress reliever.

The Appalachian Trail journey will end Oct. 26, but the journey for wellness will continue.
